Network in numbers
There’s much more to Electricity Transmission than the assets that make up the network.
Our network in numbers
Our network goes beyond our assets - our diverse workforce is working hard to overcome some of the biggest energy challenges of the 21st century and provide a safe, reliable and affordable service for our customers.
The infographic below provides a snapshot of the scale and diversity of our business.
A diverse workforce
Almost 18% of our total workforce have declared themselves to be of ‘minority’ racial or ethnic heritage. We recognise the value a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture bring to our business and have many initiatives to encourage and promote this.
National Grid was ranked 9th (globally) and 3rd (in Europe) in the Women in Power and Utilities Index top 20 for 2016. The index tracks gender diversity in leadership.
By introducing a diverse panel interview approach to appoint senior leaders, we have seen an increase in gender diversity and BAME (black, Asian, and minority ethnic) representation on our Network Capability Electricity leadership team. We have also established development programmes for BAME employees to build leadership capability.
It’s the talented, knowledgeable people in our organisation that inspire our work and drive our continuous development. Find out what our leading engineers, academics and experts think about the latest technology, the future of energy and how it affects you and our industry.
If you’re experiencing a power cut, you should call 105. Do not call your electricity supplier. Electricity suppliers sell consumers energy and are not responsible for power lines. Calling 105 is a free service.
